Perhaps further development and commercialisation is a future next step, but for now it was a great little project from which I learnt a lot, and it added an extra fun element to my wedding, which was what I set out to do. A custom wedding app with photo slideshow functionality sounds to me like something that could be popular.Īnd sure enough, a simple web search confirms my suspicions, with a few tools out there doing similar things, with pricing around £45 as a one-off payment. I have since wondered whether this idea would have commercial value. I used a tool called Slidesome to present the images on screens throughout the venue, directly from the dropbox folder. The pictures were also posted on a wedding facebook page that I’d created. ![]() These were displayed via a wordpress widget on the wedding website (and via the app itself). I used IFTTT to monitor for new files in the dropbox folder, and post new pictures to Flickr. The app consisted of a basic camera/video/image picker, which wrote the output to a dropbox folder via the dropbox API. I am trying to create a slideshow of images inside my Dropbox folder and it wont allow me to from the lock screens settings menu. It was actually fairly simple, and used a range of freely available online tools. ![]() It was a lot of fun to watch it in action, and felt more interactive and engaging than traditional photo booths or polaroid cameras. These are then displayed live in a slideshow on screens throughout the venue, and posted on the wedding website and Facebook page. The main function, however, is a camera and video which allows users to take pics and add captions throughout the day. The guests install an app which contains details of the wedding (timings, menu, address, etc.). While working in local government, I prototyped an app for reporting potholes which captured the geolocation of the user and allowed them write a description and share a photo with maintenance teams.īut perhaps the most fun little side-project I set myself was to develop a “photo booth” app for my own wedding.
